Social Studies 5 Themes of Geography Reflection

The five themes of geography help people understand connections between people and the earth, because they show how people interact and are connected. Region shows the characteristics that unite an area. Place shows the human and physical characteristics of a place. Location shows where a place is. Movement shows how people and ideas get around in an area. Human Environment Interaction shows how people interact, alter, and adapt to their environment.

Movement is the hardest theme of geography to understand, because it is the most similar to all of the other themes so it gets confusing. For example: a community builds a bridge so that kids can go to school. It could be human environment interaction, because they are changing the environment, but it is also movement!
